Getting Started
What is Sky Explorer for?
Sky Explorer is a real-world exploration game that lets you fly across the Apple Maps photo-realistic 3D map to discover locations, complete scavenger hunts, capture snapshots, and save your adventures.
Do I need a separate account to use Sky Explorer?
No. Your Apple account is tied to your purchase, and that’s all that is required to sync your lists and snapshots across all of your apple devices.
Is Sky Explorer easy to use?
Yes. The main experience is designed around simple joystick flight controls over an uncluttered map. The few buttons on screen allow you to quickly view your saved pins, scavenger hunt lists, access search and settings and take snapshots of interesting things you see.
Can I search for places?
Yes. Search for landmarks, addresses, or points of interest, then fly directly to them through the interactive map experience.
What are pin lists?
Pin lists let you save, organize, revisit, and explore locations you discover while flying. If you pin a location using the widget or your Apple Watch, they get categorized as visited in-person. Pins dropped within the app are shown differently to help you quickly find the type of pin you are looking for.
How does SkyExplorer use my location and private information?
We have designed Sky Explorer with deep respect for our user’s privacy. The app only uses your current GPS location to track the avatar with your current location in game, or to drop a pin at your current location. We do not have access to, or store any location information. We also do not share, transmit or sell any customer data to third parties or advertisers.
All pin and scavenger hunt data stored in the app is encrypted in Core Data by default and is secured by the iPhone’s passcode or biometric authentication, if they are enabled on your device.
Does Sky Explorer work with Apple Watch or widgets?
The app includes an Apple Watch app that allows users to capture their current location and even send it to someone with just a few taps.
The iOS app icon includes a Home Screen widget that allows anyone to capture and send their location with the same ease.
Scavenger Hunts And Gameplay
What game modes are available?
SkyExplorer supports Free Play, Timer, and Countdown modes, with optional geo-fencing for focused challenges.
How are objectives completed?
During a hunt, you fly to a target location, drop a pin and take a snapshot. The snapshot marks the current objective as found and moves you to the next objective on the list.
What kinds of scavenger hunts are included?
SkyExplorer includes a library of scavenger hunts across a range of categories to start explorers off.
Can I create my own scavenger hunts?
Yes. You can create as many scavenger hunts as you want, each with their own objectives, titles, icons, and categories.
Are there leaderboards?
Yes. Timer and Countdown hunts can record scores so players can compare their runs and compete for better times.
Captures, Pins, And Sharing
Can I save photos from the app?
Yes. You can capture snapshots, review them, annotate directly in-app, then save or share them
Can I record gameplay?
Yes. SkyExplorer supports 30-second full-resolution gameplay recordings with an in-game recording HUD and video preview.
Can I share hunts or pin lists?
Yes. Sky Explorer supports sharing and importing hunt lists, pin lists, and saved hunt packages.
